How herbs work

Fruits and vegetables are not the only plants that are good for your health. Hundreds of plants have health benefits. Some are just not great fits for the produce aisle. So, we extract their phytochemical compounds into a liquid. That way you don’t have to chew on tough roots or delicate flowers to get their effects.

A few generations ago, any child would be able to identify the helpful plants growing in their region. Leaves, flowers, berries, barks, roots, and more—we were all familiar with local plants and their uses. Today we’re not limited to just the plants growing in our own area. We can combine our own herbal traditions with those from the tops of mountains, the shores of distant seas and cultures across our shared globe.

There are couple easy ways to approach taking herbs. The first is a tonic approach. This means you take supportive herbs regularly, usually every day, in order to support your long-term or seasonal health goals. It’s a healthy habit in some ways similar to eating right, exercising or getting good rest.

The other way is a response approach. This means taking more acute herbs when you already experiencing some sort of distress. Some of the most famous herbs like Echinacea and Ginger are often taken this way.

How liquid herbal extracts work

Liquid herbal extracts help you get the plants’ benefits quickly by partially bypassing the digestive process. When you swallow them, there is little processing work your body has to do. Much of the herb extractives just get absorbed through your mouth, stomach and small intestine.

Liquid herbal extracts deliver a more authentic representation of the plant. They convey much of the herb’s smell, taste, color, as well as its stimulating, cooling or other properties. On a phytochemical level, our liquid extracts closely match the make-up of the original plants.

Just as important, liquid herbal extracts can be made simply, without any extra ingredients or processing. Often, our products contain only the herb extractives and the liquid used to extract them. The process of creating a liquid extract is often the first step in making other formats for herbal supplements.

Last, liquid extracts make it easy to adjust the amount of herbal extract you would like to take. We put a range of doses on our labels to accommodate different people, lifestyles and goals.

How Herbs on the Go work

We put our decades of expertise into taking the confusion out of herbs. The names let you know what they’re for and when to take them. The spray makes them portable and easy to use. And of course, the formulas themselves are thoughtful blends of just the right helpful herbs.

So much goes into being so simple.

The story starts on our farms in Oregon. They’re Certified Organic, Non-GMO, Salmon-Safe, Bee-friendly and even a Monarch Butterfly Waystation. If something interacts with our farms, we do our part to make it a little bit better. Then what we can’t grow ourselves, we source responsibly from ethical growers and wildcrafters around the planet.

Our herbalist team selects the right combination of herbs for each formula then extracts them in balance with nature. We extract each herb gently, refusing to manipulate the plants’ natural chemical make-up. Ultimately what’s in the bottle matches what’s in the plant. Undistorted.
